This is the second image I produced after purchasing Manga for the Beginner by Cristopher Hart. This exercise copied a step by step reproduction of an image in the book and is not original.

This is the first image I produced after purchasing Manga for the Beginner by Cristopher Hart. I want to note that this and some of the following images where I reference excercises from reading this book are reproductions of practice drawings in the book and not my designs.
This is a series of avatar sketches and drawings I made while thinking about updating the avatar I had originally created. Shortly after this I began to study and purchase reading material and art supplies related to drawing manga.

This was a quick sketch done to try and re-draw the Goat Pen goat as seen in the goatpen.net logo (seen below).

One excericise from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards is to copy Pablo Picasso’s Portrait of Igor Stravinsky by drawing it on the paper upside down and only looking at an upside down picture of the Picasso for reference.

This was my first attempt at creating a cartoon avatar for myself for use in various forums, twitter, etc. It was used as my avatar in the goatpen.net forums and as part of the header banner at aTm’s Nerdy Menagerie forum before later being replaced.
The creation of this logo, which was obviously manga/anime inspired was probably the genesis of my interest in drawing more anime/manga inspired art than I had in previous cartoon drawings.
